The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off an 11-6 season that netted a playoff berth, yet they have some major roster holes to fill this offseason. While wide receiver will be their top priority, head coach Jim Harbaugh may look to find another running back in free agency. As their lead running back in 2024, J.K. Dobbins is also set to be a free agent.

On Friday, a former Pro Bowl running back was surprisingly let go. According to Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins have released speedster Raheem Mostert. Mostert's release opens the door for him to be a Charger in 2025.

Could Raheem Mostert Be a Charger in 2025?

The 32-year-old running back is coming off of a rough 2024 campaign. In 2024, Mostert rushed for 279 yards on 85 carries and scored two touchdowns. Mostert's production this season was a massive step back from where it was in 2023. The season prior, Mostert rushed for 1,012 yards on 209 carries and scored 18 touchdowns.

While it's fair to assume that Mostert's dip in production in 2024 could have been due to injuries, it wasn't. This season, Mostert played 13 games and made one start. The next factor people will look at to explain the dip is his age.

Even though most running backs start to decline in their thirties, Mostert's first season getting the brunt of the work was when he was 26. Sure, that means he has been punished for six seasons, but his most productive season came at age 31. Who's to say he doesn't have at least one more 500-yard season in him?

If Los Angeles signed Mostert, he likely wouldn't be featured back. Instead, he would be part of a rotation, which was proven to be important this season for the Chargers.

It will be interesting to see if Harbaugh and the Chargers will pursue Mostert this offseason.
