Chargers Could Steal Rival All-Pro According to Latest Free Agency Odds
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Chargers will almost certainly bring in a running back in the offseason to replace their long-term starter Austin Ekeler. It's understandably the right time to transform the running back rotation in Los Angeles with both Ekeler and Joshua Kelley hitting free agency this offseason.
The Bolts might choose to address the need at the draft with Michigan's Blake Corum considered a prime candidate due to his connection with new head coach Jim Harbaugh. However, they will have plenty of options in free agency as well if they prefer a more experienced option as their primary rusher.
Josh Jacobs Is An Excellent Austin Ekeler Replacement Option
One of the best running backs on the market is Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders. At age 26, the former Alabama standout will be one of the most sought-after rushers come March. Fortunately for the Chargers, they might have a good chance of signing him if he were to leave Las Vegas, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
In Josh Jacobs' next team odds released by DraftKings, the Chargers are +550 to land the All-Pro running back. The most likely scenario is a return to the Raiders with -120 odds, but if Jacobs were to leave, Los Angeles seems like the most likely destination for him.
After being the NFL rushing leader in 2022, Jacobs had a down season last year. However, this was more likely due to the dysfunctional Raiders offense and injuries, rather than anything else. Jacobs is still in his prime and should have another 1,000+ yards and a 10+ touchdown season in 2024. The Chargers can't do much better than that in terms of Austin Ekeler replacement.
