Chargers Cut Another Backup QB Immediately After Preseason Week 2
By Jovan Alford
The Los Angeles Chargers continue to make drastic changes to their quarterback room after another horrendous preseason performance.
Last week, the Chargers waived undrafted free agent Casey Bauman, who was signed after the 2024 NFL Draft but didn’t play in the team’s preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
It wasn’t surprising to see Bauman cut with the addition of UFL quarterback Luis Perez to the 90-man roster. However, the Chargers surprised fans with their latest cut in the QB room on Monday.
Chargers News: Los Angeles Cut Ties With 2023 Draft Pick
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Chargers are releasing second-year QB Max Duggan. Duggan was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Heisman finalist out of TCU will reportedly go on waivers.
With Duggan off the roster, the Chargers are down to Easton Stick and Perez as the two potential candidates to be the backup behind Justin Herbert.
The former TCU quarterback struggled to stand out in the preseason as he didn’t play in Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. However, Duggan played in the Chargers’ preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks, where he completed 4-of-7 passes for 41 yards and was sacked once.
Duggan also had 15 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough to earn snaps this weekend against the Rams.
The 23-year-old quarterback was signed to a futures/reserve contract at the end of last season after spending time on the Chargers’ practice squad.
With the Chargers only having Stick and Perez, who haven’t impressed in preseason, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the team address the position ahead of roster cutdown day.
