The Los Angeles Chargers are off to an excellent start to the 2024 season, coming off two convincing wins to go up 2-0. The biggest concern for Chargers fans came in the third quarter of the Week 2 matchup against the Panthers. Star quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a leg injury after an unfortunate fall following a tackle by two Panthers defenders. He was able to close out the game but he was seen limping afterward.

Fortunately for the Chargers, there doesn't seem to be any structural damage or a serious issue with Herbert's leg. In fact, he was back at practice this week but the details of his participation in Thursday's practice are not encouraging.

NFL News: Chargers' Justin Herbert Limited in Thursday's Practice

First, ESPN's Kris Rhim reported that Herbert's ankle was heavily taped at practice. The video he provided shows a stationary Herbert throwing passes.

Then, it was NFL insider Adam Schefter who provided an update. He said that Herbert didn't do drills at practice. This confirmed the footage we saw earlier of Herbert working out separately from the team.

When asked about it on Wednesday, Jim Harbaugh didn't seem too concerned about his QB1's injury. Yet, he added that they are ready to start Easton Stick if Herbert wasn't able to go on Sunday.

All of this points to the very real possibility that Herbert, at the bare minimum, be limited against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. That is not an ideal condition to go into Heinz Field and face TJ Watt. There is a chance that the Chargers will not risk Herbert for a Week 3 game and will keep him healthy for the big Week 4 matchup at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.
