Jim Harbaugh Teases Potential Disaster With Latest Justin Herbert Injury Update
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Chargers are off to a hot start as they had a dominant win in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers. While doing so, however, they lost their star quarterback to injury.
In the third quarter, Justin Herbert was tackled by DJ Johnson and Jayden Peevy and was trapped between the two defenders, resulting in a lower leg injury. He got some treatment in the medical tent and was able to finish the game. He was seen limping after the game, causing concern among Chargers fans.
Fortunately, it was later revealed that X-rays were negative on Herbert's leg. That doesn't mean that he is fully cleared to play against the Steelers on Sunday. Head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed this in his latest remarks.
NFL News: Jim Harbaugh Provides Justin Herbert Injury Update
Harbaugh said that Herbert was feeling a lot better today but didn't say he was good to go for Week 3. Instead, he said that backup QB Easton Stick would start if Herbert wasn't available.
That is certainly not what Chargers fans wanted to hear. The fanbase has been clamoring for an upgrade in the QB2 position all offseason but the front office was fine with entering yet another season with Stick.
After Herbert was sidelined for the rest of the season in 2023, Stick took over as the starting QB. He was 0-4 in four starts, putting up a 63.8% completion rate, three touchdowns, and an interception. Those were the only starts in his NFL career despite entering the league in 2019 and being a member of the Chargers since then.
The 29-year-old getting another start under center doesn't instill much confidence among Chargers fans. So, let's hope it doesn't come to that.
