The Los Angeles Chargers haven’t had the best preseason because of the shaky quarterback play they’ve seen on the field.

The Chargers have been without star quarterback Justin Herbert, who suffered a right foot injury (plantar fascia) earlier this month. Herbert hasn’t played in any of LA’s preseason games but is expected to return for the start of the regular season.

With Herbert sidelined it allowed the Chargers coaches to get an up-close look at the other QBs on the roster, who have struggled mightily.

The Chargers cut Casey Bauman last week and Max Duggan on Monday, leaving LA with two healthy quarterbacks on the roster in Easton Stick and Luis Perez. However, the Chargers got good news on Monday, which should give them some hope heading into the season.

Chargers News: Justin Herbert Returns to Practice After Injury Diagnosis

Herbert returned to the practice field on Monday afternoon, much to the delight of head coach Jim Harbaugh, who was excited to have his starting quarterback back.

"It felt great,” Harbaugh said (h/t ESPN). “It felt like music should be playing, I thought I heard music, voices of angels maybe. It felt great."

The 26-year-old quarterback reportedly didn’t participate in any full-team situations but received a lot of snaps during 7-on-7 drills.

With the Chargers’ QB play being less than subpar this summer, no one can blame Harbaugh for being excited about Herbert’s return. For the Chargers to do anything this season, let alone make the playoffs (+110 on DraftKings Sportsbook), they need a healthy Herbert to lead this brand-new offense.

The Chargers will kick off the regular season on Sept. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders, giving Herbert at least two more weeks to get back to full strength.
