Chargers Ink First Major Extension of Jim Harbaugh Era
The Los Angeles Chargers have experienced a lot of overturn this offseason. But that should have been expected since they changed head coaches and handed over the keys to Jim Harbaugh.
With the regular season starting on Sept. 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chargers decided to give out their first big-time extension of the Harbaugh era.
Chargers News: Cameron Dicker Is Now Signed Through 2028
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chargers have given kicker Cameron Dicker a four-year, $22.004 million dollar extension. That deal includes $12.5 million guaranteed, and he's now one of the league's five highest-paid kickers.
In 17 games with the Chargers in 2023, Dicker went 31-of-33 on his field goal attempts, including 7-of-9 from 50-plus yards away. In addition, he was 35-of-35 on extra point attempts.
Now he's locked in for the foreseeable future and that's a win for the Chargers. Having a reliable kicker goes such a long way in the NFL and will be the difference between a win or loss.
As Harbaugh puts his imprint on the team, inking his kicker was the first big-time extension.
Los Angeles placed emphasis on getting more physical and technically sound this offseason. They added more bruisers and maulers on both sides of the ball but this is just the start.
The Chargers still have their work cut out for them to take a jump this fall and dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers currently have the second-highest odds at +390 to win the AFC West in 2024.
