The 2024 regular season is right around the corner. After months of countless moves and changes around the organization, the Chargers start the season with a home opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 8.

But before we can get there, Los Angeles had to get the roster down to 53 men on Aug. 27 by 1 p.m. PST. They accomplished that but shortly after they made a shocking move at quarterback on Wednesday.

Chargers News: Los Angeles Acquired Taylor Heinicke

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Chargers have acquired quarterback Taylor Heinicke from the Atlanta Falcons for a conditional sixth-round pick.

The Chargers only have Justin Herbert and Easton Stick as the two quarterbacks on the roster but the addition of Heinicke changes the dynamic. He'll certainly step in and be the backup for Herbert.

Heinicke has been in the NFL for six seasons and has shown he can step in for a few games to be an effective signal-caller.

The 31-year-old has played in 38 games, including 29 starts. The Old Dominion product has completed 62.5% of his passes for 6,635 passing yards with 39 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. Now he will walk into the Chargers quarterback room and provide them with a quality backup.

Throughout training camp, Herbert was been dealing with a plantar fascia in his right foot that caused him to miss time. He has recently returned to the field but injuries are a part of the game. Not having a good backup quarterback can completely halt your season and the Chargers now have a capable signal caller who can step up if needed.
