Chargers' Latest Signing Sends Clear Message About Jim Harbaugh's Priorities
Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz are now the two men in charge of turning things around in Los Angeles. The Chargers had to make some moves to navigate the salary cap for 2024 and they decided to release Mike Williams, saving roughly $20 million.
Los Angeles would like to become a tougher and bigger team upfront. On Mar. 13, tight end Will Dissly officially signed with the Chargers on a three-year, $14 million deal. He can be a nice weapon in the passing game but he is going to be a gritty run blocker that Los Angeles wants.
They weren't done adding to that room. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, tight end Hayden Hurst is going to visit the Chargers with the intention of signing with the team.
An interesting nugget that Fowler added is Hortiz was a part of the Ravens regime that selected Hurst in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Chargers Rumors: Hayden Hurst Signing in Los Angeles
Hurst is an athletic pass-catcher who is going to take over Gerald Everett's role on the offense. The 30-year-old can create mismatches due to his speed and frame (6'4).
In six seasons, Hurst has compiled 195 receptions for 1,902 yards and 15 touchdowns, including two seasons with at least 400 receiving yards.
With the departure of Williams, the Chargers have added two quality weapons in the tight end room. It's clear that the Chargers want to become more physical in 2024 and these two moves showcased that.
Heading into a critical offseason, the Chargers need to continue adding talent to improve their chances of winning the division to catch the Kansas City Chiefs but according to FanDuel Sportsbook, Los Angeles is +370 underdogs to win the AFC West.
