Chargers Sign Big-Play Free Agent Wide Receiver Who Should Shine With Justin Herbert
Head coach Jim Harbaugh embraces being the most physically imposing club. That's how he made a killing with the San Francisco 49ers and the Michigan Wolverines. He brought that mindset over to the Chargers and it was on display with their fifth overall pick.
Los Angeles took OT Joe Alt and have him with Rashawn Slater as two bookend tackles for the future.
Even though protection is one of the most important parts of the team, you need capable pass catchers, and Harbaugh just added one to the roster.
Chargers News: D.J. Chark Signs in Los Angeles
Per Ian Rapoport, the Chargers and WR DJ Chark agreed to terms on a one-year, $5 million deal. This addition was needed after the moves that Los Angeles made this offseason.
They decided to release WR Mike Williams and traded away Keenan Allen. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chargers selected WRs Ladd McConkey and Brenden Rice but still wanted a veteran playmaker in that room.
That's where Chark comes in. He was a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft who excels in stretching the field. The former LSU product has good speed to blow past defenders and uses his long arms to track the ball well.
In his six-year career, Chark has reeled in 212 receptions (383 targets) for 3,069 receiving yards, and 23 touchdowns.
Quarterback Justin Herbert has a rocket of an arm so Chark's play style fits in perfectly. Los Angeles needed someone in the WR room to take the top off the defense and Chark provides that.
