Chargers Sign Derwin James Replacement for Week 4 vs. Chiefs
The Los Angeles Chargers are preparing for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4. Last week they were handed loss No. 1 on the campaign but it was more than just a loss on paper.
Quarterback Justin Herbert re-aggravated his ankle injury, Joe Alt sprained his MCL, and Rashawn Slater injured his pec.
In addition to all of that, safety Derwin James was suspended without pay for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That is a big-time loss and the Chargers just added some who can step in on Sunday.
Chargers News: Tony Jefferson Added To Active Roster
The Chargers signed safety Tony Jefferson to the active roster, up from the practice squad. This is the second time he's been elevated to the active roster this season.
Across his 10-year career, Jefferson has shown he can step in and be an effective force. He's started 67 games, logging 492 total tackles, 34 tackles for loss, eight forced fumbles, and four picks in his career.
The Oklahoma product isn't as dynamic as James but he can give the Chargers a solid floor when he's out there.
The Chargers have struggled against the Chiefs in recent memory. They've dropped five straight games versus Kansas City and eight of the last 10.
Winning the AFC West runs through these Chiefs but the way things have fallen this week, it's going to be an uphill battle to beat this undefeated team.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers are seven-point underdogs.
