The Chargers have Jim Harbaugh as the new head coach in Los Angeles, as they look to redeem themselves after a disappointing 2023 season. The Chargers went 5-12, which led to a boatload of changes that happened this offseason.

One constant that they have heading into this new tenure is quarterback Justin Herbert. In July 2023, the Chargers and Herbert agreed to terms on a five-year, $262.5 million extension. That deal includes a no-trade clause, $133.7 million in full guarantees, and $193.7 million in injury guarantees.

Even though Herbert is clearly regarded as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league, a former All-Pro teammate took a shot at Herbert.

Chargers News: Chris Harris Says Justin Herbert Is Lacking Something From His Game

Chris Harris Jr. played for the Chargers from 2020-2021, so he got an up-and-close look at Herbert. Harris Jr. was a guest on the "Up and Adams Show" and was discussing Herbert. He said the 26-year-old is lacking the clutch factor in his game.

Harris said, "He's missing that clutch factor like a [Patrick] Mahomes."

"It's that 4th quarter dominance that you can see from a Brady, that you see from Mahomes or Big Ben. When I played against those guys, if the game was a touchdown or three points, I was nervous.""

The 34-year-old added that Herbert will need to gain that clutch factor to beat Mahomes, who plays in the same division.

To defend Herbert, he's notched 11 fourth-quarter comebacks and 14 game-winning drives in his career since being drafted in 2020.

In addition, the Oregon product has completed 66% of his throws for 17,223 passing yards, and 114 passing touchdowns. These are really good numbers but Harris Jr. has a point.

To get over the top, especially with Mahomes in his division, Herbert has to take his game up a notch. All the best signal callers in the league are cold-blooded in the clutch, constantly putting fear in opposing defenders. Herbert hasn't developed that yet but that's something he needs to add to his arsenal.
