Ideal Lakers Free Agent Target Now Reportedly More Available
The Los Angeles Lakers will be in the limelight for a large portion of the offseason due to the abundance of moves they need to make.
The Lakers are looking for a new head coach, find a way to add more talent to the group, and they need to retain superstar LeBron James.
Although James is expected to opt out, he's likely to return to LA, especially if they hire his good friend JJ Redick.
The latest reports coming from Los Angeles suggest that the Lakers want to add to the supporting cast this offseason instead of looking to add a third star.
With that being said, the perfect free-agent target looks like he will actually hit the open market, which is great news for the Lakers.
Lakers News: Klay Thompson and the Warriors Aren't Close on New Deal
Anthony Slater of the Athletic reported that the Golden State and Klay Thompson haven't made any movement on an extension.
Thompson is coming off the final year of his five-year, $189.9 million contract with Golden State but both sides may be heading their separate ways.
Thompson isn't the same player he was in his prime after he tore his ACL and Achilles in consecutive years but he's still an effective player due to his play style.
The five-time All-Star thrives as a catch-and-shoot threat and has a lighting quick release to let it fly from downtown.
During the 2023-24 season with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and shot 38.7% from beyond the arc.
He is the type of player who would thrive alongside James and Davis. Thompson has championship experience and knows how to play off great players.
The 34-year-old is also a Los Angeles native so this could be a homecoming if he decides to join the Lakers.
