JJ Redick-Lakers Saga Continues After Latest Report
It's been a hectic couple of weeks for the Los Angeles Lakers since their season ended in late April. The Lakers were initially linked to JJ Redick but their attention turned to UConn's Dan Hurley.
Despite their pursuit of Hurley, they were turned down and pivoted back to Reddick. On June 18, Anthony Irwin of LakersDailyCom reported that Redick is going to be the next coach of the Lakers but nothing has been finalized.
Now we've seem to hit another wall with the latest news that has come out.
Lakers News: JJ Redick Has Not Be Offered Lakers Head Coaching Job Yet
Last weekend, Redick and the Lakers had a formal interview at the team's practice facility. It was widely assumed that the Lakers would hurry to hire a new head coach after the NBA Finals and before the NBA Draft that starts on June 26. That doesn't seem like the case and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski gave some insight on Sportscenter with Scott Van Pelt.
"What’s really left for the Lakers and JJ Redick at this point is for the Lakers to make an offer which they haven’t quite done yet."
- Adrian Wojnarowski
It's a bit interesting that Los Angeles has still not offered the position to Redick. The 39-year-old has been linked to the Lakers for weeks now and the hype has never faded away. That clearly means there's truth to their interest in him. So why haven't they offered Redick the job?
No one knows the exact reason but that could mean they have more intriguing options. James Borrego is another candidate linked to Los Angeles, while Monty Williams may be another name to watch after he was fired by the Detroit Pistons.
It still looks like Redick will be the man for the job but the timetable is uncertain.
