With the 2023-24 NBA season officially in the books, we can now move to the offseason, which should be interesting for many teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are still searching for their next head coach after UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley turned down their offer last week to be the new guy to lead the purple and gold. With Hurley out of the picture, the Lakers turned their attention back to JJ Redick, who looked to be a frontrunner for the job.

Redick reportedly interviewed for the head coaching vacancy over the weekend – another sign that LA could be zeroing in on their next head coach. It appears that Redick must’ve made a good impression on the Lakers’ front office because he’s reportedly going to be the next head coach, according to Anthony Irwin.

If Irwin's report is accurate, this will be a risky decision by the front office as the former NBA player turned analyst hasn’t held a coaching position in the NBA or the college ranks.

The 39-year-old Redick will have the tough task of trying to get the Lakers back to the top of the Association after getting bounced in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Denver Nuggets.

The good news for the former NBA sharpshooter is that he’ll have LeBron James and Anthony Davis to lean on, which is a great duo to work with, but also comes with its own challenges.

We saw the Lakers move on from Darvin Ham after the two seasons, where he led the team to an in-season title this season and the Western Conference Finals the year before. Before Ham took the job, Frank Vogel was only the head coach in LA for three seasons and he led them to an NBA title in the bubble.

Nonetheless, whenever the hire is officially announced, it will be interesting to see what Los Angeles does to help Redick because he'll be under a ton of pressure immediately.
