Lakers Offering Massive Concession to Re-Sign LeBron James
The Los Angeles Lakers are constantly going to be in the news cycles this summer. They recently hired J.J. Redick to become their new head coach after weeks of searching for the right guy.
Now the attention is focused on adding quality and impactful playmakers around both LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
But before they can think too deeply, they need to re-sign James but the latest reporting has disclosed the type of contract the Lakers are willing to give their superstar player.
Lakers News: Los Angeles Open to Giving LeBron James a No-Trade Clause in New Deal
NBA Insider Shams Charania was a guest on the "Pat McAfee Show' on June 27 and revealed that the Lakers are willing to give James whatever contract he wants, including a no-trade clause.
LeBron James can only secure a no-trade clause if he opts out because it can't be added to an extension. To put it into perspective, Phoenix guard Bradley Beal is the only player in the NBA who has that.
Charania said, "If he opts out, I mean he can still dictate his contract. It'll be a two-year deal. The Lakers have said it, I've reported it, they're willing to offer whatever LeBron James wants."
James can get up to $160 million across three years with a no-trade clause if he opts out.
James joined the Lakers in 2018 and has averaged 27 points, 7.9 rebounds, and eight assists over the last six seasons, including an NBA title in 2020.
The 39-year-old is one of the best players in the history of the game. Of course, the Lakers are going to do anything to keep him around. And that's the right approach.
