Rams Competing With Cardinals For Late-Round Running Back Prospect
By Cem Yolbulan
The Los Angeles Rams had a bounce-back 2023 campaign after struggling immensely the year prior. The offense similarly took a big step forward despite the team getting younger in the offseason. Now, the Rams are looking to build upon last season's success and hopefully make another deep postseason run.
The best way to bolster their roster, like every NFL team, will be through the draft. The Rams have a total of 11 picks in this year's draft, tied for the most of any team in the league. This will give them an excellent opportunity to add some much-needed depth in key positions.
One of those areas will be the running back rotation. The Rams have one of the best young rushers in the league in Kyren Williams, but the depth behind him is a work in progress.
Therefore, it makes sense that they are reportedly interested in an intriguing running back prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Rams are one of the handful of teams to have a visit with Alabama RB Jase McClellan.
2024 NFL Draft Rumors: Rams Interested in Alabama's Jase McClellan
The Rams will have some competition to land McClellan, however. NFC West rivals, the Arizona Cardinals are similarly interested in the young rusher.
McClellan was a key cog in the Crimson Tide's offense last year. The 5-foot-10 workhorse rushed for 890 yards on 180 attempts, averaging 4.9 yards per carry in 2023. He finished his Alabama career with a 5.6 yards per carry and 18 touchdowns while adding 6 scores in the passing game.
In the Rose Bowl against the eventual national champion Michigan, McClellan ran for 87 yards on 14 attempts and scored two touchdowns.
Los Angeles should be able to draft McClellan with one of their seven Day 3 draft picks, including four in the sixth round. They could even package these picks to move up in the draft to make sure they end up with the intriguing prospect.
