Rams Get Exciting Update on Stetson Bennett
By Cem Yolbulan
We finally have a Stetson Bennett update. The two-time national football championship winner is currently working out in Dallas and planning to join the Los Angeles Rams in offseason workouts, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Rams News: Stetson Bennett Expected to Join Team
Bennett was the fourth-round draft pick for the Rams in 2023 after an impressive collegiate career at Georgia. Los Angeles was hoping that Bennett would be the backup to Matthew Stafford, and eventually taking over as a starter if things went right.
However, nothing went right for Bennett in his rookie season. In fact, he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list in September and spent the entire year there.
The Rams had to resort to Brett Rypien in his stead, who struggled immensely in his only start, forcing Los Angeles to bring in veteran backup Carson Wentz.
Currently, Wentz is still unsigned in free agency, and considering the fact that the Rams just signed Jimmy Garoppolo to be Stafford's backup, it's unlikely that Wentz will be back.
This means that Bennett has a chance to compete for the backup QB spot with Jimmy G since the former Raider is suspended for the first two games of the season.
We will likely never find out the reason why Bennett spent his first NFL season on the reserve list. But, if he can come back and provide solid QB2 play when given a chance, Rams fans will gladly forget all about the 2023 campaign.
The Rams currently lag behind the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West odds (+450) to win the division.
