The Los Angeles Rams largely kept their successful core from last year, only making additions on the margins in positions of need this offseason. One of those key signings in free agency was offensive lineman Jonah Jackson. After finishing out his rookie deal with the Detroit Lions, Jackson signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Rams in March. Despite the widespread expectation that the 27-year-old would be starting at left guard on opening week, Rams fans may have to wait a little longer to see their new signing in action.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the former Ohio State standout will miss the entire preseason due to a bruised scapula. Reporting that Jackson was spotted on the sidelines with his left arm in a sling, Schefter didn't rule out the possibility that the guard would start against Detroit in Week 1.

Rams News: G Jonah Jackson to Miss Entire Preseason With Injury

Jackson will certainly be extra motivated to face his former team where he spent his first four years in the NFL. In the last two seasons, Jackson missed a total of nine games with various injuries to his wrist, ankle, and knee. During the Rams' offseason, head coach Sean McVay had said that Jackson was in good shape for the training camp.

Therefore, this can be considered a major setback for Jackson.

At the same time, the Rams have rarely played their starters in the preseason during the Sean McVay era. Even if Jackson was available, he was unlikely to see a ton of snaps in the three preseason games for the Rams.

Los Angeles opens the preseason with a game against the Cowboys on August 11. They are scheduled to play two more games before the regular-season opener at home against the Lions.
