Sean McVay Reveals a New Plan for the Kyren Williams as the 2024 Approaches
You can see it and smell it in the air. Football is back and teams around the NFL are taking part in training camp.
All players reported to the facility on July 23 for the Rams as they began preparing to make another postseason run this season. They went 10-7 but were bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
A big reason for their success was due to young studs like Kyren Williams and Puka Nucua going off the offensive end.
Now as we approach the 2024 campaign, head coach Sean McVay revealed the team plans for Williams this fall.
Rams News: Los Angeles Will Be Smart About Kyren Williams' Usage
When speaking with reporters on Wednesday, McVay said the team will "be smart" with Williams to keep him fresh for a potential postseason run.
"I think the thing we have to be smart (about) is once we get into the regular season, in terms of the amount of touches. We’ll be smart"
- Sean McVay
This is a smart decision, as Williams suffered multiple injuries in his first two seasons. The Notre Dame product broke his foot and sprained his ankle as a rookie in 2022. Meanwhile last season, he injured his ankle and had to miss four games.
Giving him fewer touches to keep him fresh is wise and the Rams have the players to do so. This past April, they added Michigan running back Blake Corum in the draft. Across three seasons, Corum finished with 3,737 rushing yards with 58 touchdowns. He is someone who could step in and be effective for the Rams.
We all know Williams is the lead workhorse, as he logged 1,114 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023. The 23-year-old makes the offense better but keeping him on the field will be key for Los Angeles in 2024.
