The Rams Just Beat Pete Carroll Out of a Job
The Los Angeles Rams making the playoffs this year is pretty darn nice. We may be a long-shot at winning the Super Bowl, but that underdog role can be a lot of fun. Even just stealing a win over the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card Round would be great, and after that you can never count out any team stringing together a couple surprising wins to make a run.
But the other sweet part about earning an NFC Wild Card spot this year?
It kept the Seattle Seahawks out of the postseason, and that ended up costing Pete Carroll his job as head coach.
You never want to take glee in someone else losing their job, but also... the Rams probably take some glee in this.
The Rams-Seahawks rivalry has been a fierce one since Carroll took over as head coach in 2010. Los Angeles ultimately got the win, however, going 15-13 in the 28 meetings between the two sides. Highlighting just how close it was, only 8 points separated the two teams, for an average scoring margin of just 0.3 points per game.
Of course, it's almost bittersweet to see Carroll go. It's fun having a nemesis to really stoke the rivalry. What's Batman without the Joker? Superman without Lex Luthor? The Seahawks' O-line without any pass rusher with a heartbeat?
Carroll will reportedly stay on in an "advisor" role with the Seahawks, but that feels an awful lot like a kind way of letting a man who brought the franchise some of its best years ever to save face on his way out.
Now while the Seahawks start their head coaching search, the Rams will go ahead and keep their attention on playoff football.
