Unlike recent offseasons, the Los Angeles Rams are in a good financial situation. With $39 million in available cap space, the Rams could be major players in free agency, making the necessary moves to strengthen their roster in their chase to return to the Super Bowl.

The Rams' defense overachieved last season relative to their overall talent. Despite losing a lot of key veterans on that end, Los Angeles managed to cobble together a respectable defense under Raheem Morris' leadership. However, they can still use an infusion of talent if they want to reach another level defensively.

The secondary certainly needs an upgrade. The cornerback and safety rotation could use some depth. Every team in the NFL is looking for more edge rushers in their rotation. The Rams are no different.

Fortunately for them, two ideal targets are hitting the market as free agents.

The Miami Dolphins have announced they are releasing cornerback Xavien Howard and pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah due to their difficult cap situation. This could be an excellent opportunity for the Rams.

Now Free Agents Howard and Ogbah Excellent Fits for Rams

Howard is an especially good fit. The eight-year veteran is not the same Pro Bowl ballhawk he once was, but he is still an impact player. At his best, he had a 10-interception season in 2020, and he was a Pro Bowl selection as recently as 2022. In 2023, he finished with 45 tackles and 12 passes defended.

Ogbah, on the other hand, had a less productive season. He only played a career-low 25% of snaps for the Dolphins. But, he still had 5.5 sacks in 15 games, showing that he still has plenty of fuel in the tank despite entering his ninth year in the NFL. In a limited role, he could still contribute as a solid pass-rusher for the Rams.

There is no doubt that Sean McVay would be able to get the most out of these players. They are worth taking a look at instead of breaking the bank for younger, more high-level options.

The LA Rams are considered a long shot (+3000) to win the Super Bowl LIX. They need to nail their offseason moves to improve their chances.
