The Los Angeles Rams lost a nail-biter in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, As heartbreaking as that overtime loss was, what followed has been even more disappointing for Rams fans.

The Rams placed three starters, Puka Nacua, Steve Avila, and Joe Noteboom on the Injured Reserve list earlier this week, signaling that they would miss at least the next four weeks of the season. Considering that the Rams have a bye in Week 6, the expectation was that these key players would be ready to go for Week 7 against the Raiders.

Unfortunately, head coach Sean McVay didn't sound optimistic about that possibility. On Wednesday, he said that the injuries "could keep them out longer than that".

NFL News: WR Puka Nacua Could Be Out Longer Than Four Weeks

Puka Nacua's absence is an especially big blow for the Rams. After having one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory last year, Nacua began the season as Matthew Stafford's favorite target and the Rams' biggest offensive weapon.

The explosive receiver out of BYU left the Lions game on Sunday night after suffering a PCL sprain while making a catch in the second quarter. He had four catches for 35 yards until that point.

This was an aggravation of the August injury that Nacua suffered during a joint practice against the Chargers. The 23-year-old missed three weeks of practice before returning a week ahead of the Lions matchup.

The Rams' wide receiver corps will be short-handed as they take on the Cardinals in Week 2. Tyler Johnson will likely get the starting nod while Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson will see an increased workload. LA should be able to take care of the Cardinals without Nacua, but their next three games are against the 49ers, Bears, and the Packers. How they fare against that tough slate without their best offensive player will determine the fate of their season.
