The 2024 T-Mobile Home Run Derby was one to be remembered for a very long time. All eight bomb hitters came looking to send a couple of windshields their autographs while one man looked to make history for himself and his respective team on a very big night before the All-Star game.

The first round was all about making a statement and that was dealt with in the most satisfying way for every baseball fan around the globe. Jose Ramirez and Alec Bohm tied with twenty-one bombs in the first round while Teoscar Hernandez and Bobby Witt Jr. surpassed Adolis Garcia, Marcell Ozuna, Pete Alonso, and Gunnar Henderson to make it to the semifinals in a showdown that was already in the middle of shaping up to being phenomenal.

In the semifinals of the Home Run Derby, Witt Jr. took the bulls by the horn and nailed seventeen home runs in the semifinals to Ramirez's twelve to advance to the finals while Hernandez and Bohm went head-to-head like it was the final minute of a grueling Iron Man match. That led to Hernandez scoring the coup de grace to send Bohm packing home while the man in Dodgers Blue would head into the finals against a tough matchup.

The finals showed passion, grit, aggression, and most importantly, the will to do whatever it takes to take home the trophy and championship belt in both arms. In the finals, Witt Jr. and Hernandez took each other to the very last swing and with every fan watching on the edge of their seat or couch, the last homerun that would be sent into the crowd would be by Hernandez to win the 2024 HR derby for the first time in his career and the Dodgers organization.

Dodgers fans and players celebrated the historical win from Hernandez as the Dodgers have been to many Home Run Derbys throughout the years, but not once did they ever get a chance to take the trophy home until now.

This, of course, will lead to fans rightfully asking for the Dodgers organization to extend Hernandez's contract from one year to a multi-year deal so the luck of the home run is on LA's side for the foreseeable future.

This year was the first test of a new format that the MLB ran with the Home Run Derby, the crowd at Globe Life Field let their voices be heard as they anticipated every bomb being hit and it's safe to say that this should be done again in 2025 when the next derby comes around.

As for Hernandez, winning the trophy is one thing, but heading into the All-Star break, it should give him and the team confidence and time to rest so that they can remain as consistent as possible and push themselves to take control when the postseason arrives as they look to get Shohei Ohtani and others their first ring in the MLB.
