The 2025 NFL free agency period isn't slowing down, and the Los Angeles Rams have already made their fair share of signings — especially on the defensive side of the locker room. Defensive tackles Poona Ford and Larrell Murchison have been signed to make up for Bobby Brown's departure, while linebacker Nate Landman was signed on Tuesday to add some LB depth to the mix.
On Wednesday, the Rams continued to fortify their defense by re-signing one of their available free agents.
Rams Re-Sign CB Ahkello Witherspoon for 2025 Season
NFL insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Rams have re-signed veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to a one-year contract. It's the third offseason in a row that L.A. has brought the former Colorado Buffalo back on a one-year deal.

Shortly after Schultz made his report, sources close to Downtown Rams' Jake Ellenbogen indicated that Witherspoon's contract is worth up to $3.2 million with incentives. That's far less money than what most Rams fans thought the 29-year-old CB could fetch on the open market.
A former 2017 third-round pick, Witherspoon played four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and another two with the Pittsburgh Steelers before landing with the Rams in 2023. The Oak Park, CA native has since played a big role in Los Angeles' secondary, making 22 starts in 30 appearances across the last two seasons.
Addressing the CB room is one of the Rams' offseason priorities, and re-signing Witherspoon helps with that goal. He might not be the best ballhawk in the NFL, but he's still a reliable pass disruptor who's recorded 23 broken-up passes and four interceptions with 68 solo tackles along the way.
Witherspoon's Pro Football Focus coverage (62.6) and overall defense (65.6) grades last season weren't career highs, but they were his best efforts since the 2021 campaign. As long as the Rams don't overplay him, he should be a reliable CB presence throughout the 2025 campaign.
After finishing with the 12th-worst PFF team coverage grade in 2024, the Rams need Witherspoon and the rest of the CB room to be even better next season. After all, Los Angeles will need strong secondary performance to boost its Super Bowl 60 odds, which currently sit at +2300 (T-9th) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
