Rams Caused 49ers Defender to Quit on Team Mid-Game
By Cem Yolbulan
The Thursday Night Football showdown between the Rams and the 49ers didn't have much offense but had a ton of drama. The rain-soaked game gave us a lot of punts and no touchdowns, but the Rams just did enough to keep their playoff hopes alive. In fact, they have a chance to take over first place in the NFC West if the Seahawks lose on Sunday.
While the Rams still control their own fate for the postseason, the 49ers are quickly descending into chaos. At 6-8 and at the bottom of the division, last season's NFC champions showed signs of falling apart on Thursday.
In the fourth quarter, 49ers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell was seen heading to the locker room with a towel over his head. This caught many viewers by surprise, considering that he hadn't played a snap all game. It was later revealed that the veteran defender refused to enter the game even though Dre Greenlaw and Dee Winters were dealing with injuries.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan later told reporters that Campbell told him he didn't want to play.

Shanahan was later asked whether the team would release Campbell. He answered, "We'll figure out something", but his angry tone throughout the presser suggests that the All-Pro defender's time in San Francisco is over.
After being a top-three offensive and defensive unit last year, San Francisco has taken a significant step back on both ends of the field this season. They currently rank middle of the pack offensively and 18th defensively, nowhere near the levels you need to be to be a serious postseason threat.
The Rams now have the momentum behind them after impressive back-to-back wins against the Bills and the 49ers. Their schedule eases up in the last three games of the season. After visiting the 3-10 Jets in Week 16, the Rams finish out the season at home against the Cardinals and the Seahawks.
