The Los Angeles Rams wasted no time making a meaningful addition to their roster. On Sunday, the Rams signed WR Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal that includes $26 million guaranteed.
Despite the legal tampering period opening up at 9 a.m. PST, the Rams were able to land the All-Pro WR since he was released on March 4.
With the Rams having a WR trio of Adams, Puka Nucua, and Tutu Atwell, Los Angeles should make it a priority to move Cooper Kupp, and they have a logical option.
That team is the Los Angeles Chargers, who missed out on DK Metcalf. On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded a 2025 second-round pick to the Seahawks in exchange for Metcalf. Pittsburgh then gave him a five-year, $150 million extension.
The Chargers reportedly had an interest in Metcalf, but with him no longer an option, the Rams have a different trade partner. The Rams would be wise to ship him across town to the Chargers. They badly need more juice in the WR room. Ladd McConkey is the only reliable weapon they have, and Kupp could elevate that room.
First off, the Chargers have the second-most cap space going into free agency, so they have the money to take on Kupp's contract. He's set to make $29.7 million in 2025 and $27.3 million in 2026.
Secondly, Kupp has reliable hands and is still a crisp route runner. In his career, he's compiled 634 receptions for 7,776 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns.
The Chargers badly need to improve their receiving core, but there may not be better options at this point. Stefon Diggs and Chris Godwin are the top two WRs on the open market, but both players are coming off major injuries.
Although Kupp has dealt with his fair share of injuries, he would be a massive upgrade for the Chargers. The Rams would be smart to call them regarding a trade around Kupp.
The Chargers need to improve their WR room and the Rams have the perfect player to send their way.
