The Los Angeles Rams finally took over the top spot in the NFC West, putting themselves in a favorable position to make the postseason. With two of their three remaining games at home against division rivals and the other against the 4-10 New York Jets, the Rams should feel pretty good about their chances.

On Sunday against the Jets, the Rams may unexpectedly be facing a familiar face. Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Jets signed former Rams running back Zach Evans to the practice squad. With their RB2 Braelon Allen questionable to play with a back injury, Evans is a candidate to be elevated to the active roster to face his former team.

Former Rams RB Zach Evans Signs With jets

Evans has been without a team since being cut by the Rams before the roster cutdown date. He was re-signed to the practice squad after but was released again immediately. The former TCU and Ole Miss standout has failed to establish his NFL career since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a junior at Mississippi, Evans had 936 rushing yards and nine touchdowns while adding 119 yards in the passing game in 12 games. He was in the top ten in the FBS in yards per carry with 6.5, elevating his stock heading into the draft.

So far, that 2022 season remains the high watermark of his football career. As a rookie in Los Angeles, Evans played in ten games but only appeared in 16 offensive snaps. In nine carries, he rushed for 19 yards.

When the Rams drafted Blake Corum with a third-round pick, the writing was on the wall for Evans. He will now hope to impress in New York in the remaining three games of the season with the hopes of earning himself a contract for next season.
