Rams Share Massive Injury News to Begin Prep for 1st Playoff Game
By Joe Summers
The Rams are getting set to host the Vikings in an exciting NFC Wild Card clash next Monday and just received an excellent piece of injury news to begin the pivotal week.
RT Rob Havenstein, who didn't play over the last two weeks and was limited to just 11 games in the regular season, will apparently be ready to go for the playoffs, according to head coach Sean McVay.
Los Angeles rested all of their starters in Week 18, so it's possible he could've played if the team needed him to. Either way, he'll provide a major boost to a banged-up offensive line against a ferocious defensive front known for its punishing blitzes.
Rams News: Rob Havenstein Will Play vs. Vikings
Havenstein missed most of November with an ankle sprain and suffered a shoulder injury during practice before Week 17, though McVay didn't seem worried at the time that it'd be a long-term ailment.
When he was on the field, Havenstein was among the better offensive linemen in the league. He ranked 28th out of 140 qualified tackles at Pro Football Focus, particularly excelling as a run blocker. Originally a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Rams, the 32-year-old tackle has spent his entire career with the organization.
How the offensive line performs will go a long way in determining if Los Angeles pulls off the win. They beat the Vikings 30-20 earlier this season, yet are still 1.5-point underdogs at FanDuel Sportsbook. Minnesota finished 14-3 on the year and looked like one of the NFC's elite teams, so it's a bit of misfortune that the Rams' reward for winning the division is a difficult Wild Card contest.
At their best, this Los Angeles squad can beat anyone. Having Hartenstein available helps stabilize the entire offensive line, making McVay's revelation quite important entering the most important stretch of the year.
Keeping Matthew Stafford upright has been an issue but with Hartenstein back, Rams fans can feel confident.
