The Los Angeles Rams had success in the 2024 season, going 10-7 and winning the NFC West. After getting bounced in the divisional round by the eventual champion Philadelphia Eagles, the attention has switched over to the offseason.

Cooper Kupp is on the trade block, and Matthew Stafford's future with the team hangs in the balance. He and the Rams have been discussing a new deal but things took a turn for the worst. According to Tom Pelissero, the Rams have granted Stafford's agent permission to speak with other teams.

Matthew Stafford is Allowed To Speak With Other Teams

Despite reports saying that both sides want to be together for the 2025 season, this isn't a step in the right direction.

Per Overthecap.com, Stafford has a $49.6 million cap hit but only $4 million is guaranteed. He wants to lock in an extension with more guaranteed money but it appears these sides can't reach a middle ground.

Allowing Stafford to speak with other teams is risky and highlights Los Angeles may not be willing to meet his asking price. It shows that Los Angeles has a certain price point and may not be open to passing that.

Rumors of Stafford potentially heading elsewhere started picking up when the New York Giants hired his brother-in-law, Chad Hall to become their assistant quarterbacks coach.

It was also reported that the Rams would want a first-round pick in exchange for Stafford. Even though Stafford has been an excellent signal caller for Los Angeles, they have hit a rough patch.

Over four seasons (57 games), Stafford has gone 1276-of-1942 (65.7%) for 14,700 passing yards and 95 passing touchdowns. The Rams had won at the highest level with Stafford at the helm but there's a chance that he won't be under center in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers has been a name floated as a potential replacement if the Rams move on from Stafford but Los Angeles would be smart to agree to an extension with Stafford. He's still an elite quarterback in the league and makes them one of the best teams in the NFC.

The next couple of weeks will be interesting for the Rams and the Georgia product.
