Reeling Eagles Sign Failed Ram Before Week 12 Matchup
The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams are going to link up in an NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football. These two clubs are fighting for playoff positioning and the winner of this game could gain positive seeding implications down the line.
While these teams are preparing for this contest, the Eagles decided to bring a former Ram onto their roster.
Rams News: Ex-Ram Ochuan Mathis Joins Eagles Practice Squad
On Friday, linebacker Ochuan Mathis was signed on the Eagles practice squad. To make room for him, Philadelphia released linebacker David Anenih.
Mathis was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Rams. Last season, the Nebraska product played in eight games for Los Angeles, logging two total tackles.
The 25-year-old was released by the Rams in August before landing with the New England Patriots practice squad. He was elevated three times before signing onto the active roster. In five games this season with the Pats, Mathis had two tackles and one forced fumble.
The Eagles placed EDGE Bryce Huff on IR on Friday after he underwent wrist surgery. Adding Mathis gives them another piece along the defensive front and on special teams.
During Mathis' collegiate career, he logged 183 total tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, and six pass deflections.
Mathis likely won't be elevated for this matchup against his former team but he can have a chance to stick onto the roster as the Eagles make a playoff push during the second half of the season.
