The latest Lakers rumors would be huge for a Los Angeles super team.

Enough Los Angeles Lakers rumors, right? Wrong. This summer is going to continue to be one of the more intriguing in recent years. Paul George is the biggest reason why.

According to a report from Yahoo, George has at the very least reached out to Klay Thompson about the idea. After Golden State acquired Kevin Durant last summer, making a super team of their own, Thompson’s once big role with the squad diminished.

He saw not as many shots, and took a backseat to the dynamic duo of Durant and Steph Curry. Thompson’s father once played for the Lakers, and teaming up with Paul George would be hard to pass.

Los Angeles is in need of a shooting guard. Especially after they dealt D’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn and welcomed in Lonzo Ball. Jordan Clarkson might fill the role for now, but they’d welcome a superstar.

The best part about this for the Lakers is that Paul George seems to be looking to make a long term plan. Not just come for  a year or two, win a ring, and then bounce.

Additionally, George is swinging for the fences with a guy like Thompson. Two seasons ago, thinking that Thompson would leave Golden State was unheard of.

Both he and Curry were lighting the league up from three point land like never before. If the Warriors plan on keeping Kevin Durant around in the long term, Thompson could be on his way out.

Lastly, this would prove Magic Johnson’s bold strategy right if it pays off. Dealing a young asset and a bad contract to the Nets had some fans up in arms.
