The Kings had a rough night against Arizona.

It seems the LA Kings were still on their bye week. Unable to shake the rink rust of being away from home for two weeks the Kings were beaten by the Arizona Coyotes 5-3.  Despite dominating possession of the puck, shots on goal, and hits, the Kings’ sloppy play was their undoing.

More from LA Sports Hub

In the 1st period down a man the Kings gave up a goal when the Coyotes Brendan Perlini fanned on his first shot then scored on a second shot beating Peter Budaj high.

Just 16 seconds later, the Kings were scored on then they weren’t and then they were.

An initial shot by Tobias Reider bounced of Budaj and into the net was waived off incorretly.

The Coyotes then scored on the rebound with a player sitting on Budaj in the net.  On the video review the original Reider shot was counted as the goal.

It was 2-0 in the 3rd period when the flood gates suddenly opened. The teams combined to score 6 goals in the period.  The Kings got back into the game when Tanner Pearson pocket a rebound to make it 2-1, almost immediately the Coyotes came back as Perlini scored his second goal making it 3-1.

A few minutes later from the seat of his pants Dustin Brown scored making it 3-2, a power play chance had the Kings in the driver seat. That is until they gave up a short handed goal by the Coyotes Jordan Martinook making it 4-2.

Martinook would score again on an empty netter and Pearson would also score again but too little too late providing the final margin.

The Kings were unable to challenge Coyotes goalie Mike Smith until the third period and when they finally scored their sloppy defense led to more scored against them.

For a team on the hunt for playoff spot, losing to the worst team in the division does not bode well for the team.

The team faces the Florida Panther on Saturday so they’ll need to forget about this game and move on, anything less than maximum effort and they’ll be on the wrong end of a loss again.
