NFL Free Agency: Three Targets for Chargers this Off-Season
By Jason Reed
Cordarrelle Patterson
Phillip Rivers has always been known to make decent receivers into great receivers. We’ve seen it time and time again with Rivers and the weapons he has at his disposal. A perfect example of this is Dontrelle Inman. Inman isn’t regarded as many to be a great receiver, but we have seen flashes of excellence coming at the back-end of Rivers’ passes.
Rivers’ biggest target is easily that of Keenan Allen. We have seen sparks of Allen that suggest that he has the potential to be one of, if not the, best receivers in all of football. The problem with Allen is, like many Chargers, he cannot stay healthy.

This is when the Chargers undergo a scramble, seeking desperately to fill the enormous void that Allen leaves. Often times, Rivers is left with nothing. Yet like Rivers, he seems to always make them look great.
To avoid any deficiencies the Chargers need to target a wide receiver this off-season. With Allen and Travis Benjamin serving as the one and two receivers, Los Angeles has room for a great slot receiver. That is where Cordarrelle Patterson comes in.
Patterson has shown to has immense quickness, running a 4.42 40 yard dash, and has shown the ability to utilize his vertical range.
This type of receiver would play perfectly into Rivers hands, giving the Chargers three viable options to throw to. Not only that, but Patterson would join Reggie Bush in returning kicks and punts. A combination of both Cordarrelle Patterson and Reggie Bush at the receiving end of kickoffs seems extremely deadly for oppositions.
