The seventh round selection in every draft seemingly is pointless, there could be some surpsises, but teams likely don’t expect much. There has been some great seventh round selections, Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe comes to mind, but the Chargers should try and get some sort of production from their pick. This production comes from Rodney Adams, who would help on the special teams unit.

Adams’ senior year stats are promising – 67 receptions for 822 yards with 10 touchdowns, but that does not negate the fact that he lacks that it factor for the NFL. Sure, he could make the team as a fifth or sixth receiver, and Phillip Rivers always makes guys better, but as fans we should not expect to see Adams on the receiving end of a Phillip Rivers laser.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

Instead, we should expect to see Adams somewhere in the end zone receiving kick offs and on the tail end of punts. Adams, if anything, is pretty dang quick and would make a viable special teams asset.  Adams averaged 24.3 yards per return for a pretty shoddy special teams unit – put him in an NFL special teams and his athleticism could take him places.

Overall, this mock draft for the Los Angeles Chargers was a very productive one, far better than the one prior. The Chargers got one of the most talented guys in the draft in Derek Barnett, a solid number two corner, and potentially the quarterback of the future.

Then, they drafted a wide reciever with a massive ceiling, a safety that, if coached properly, could become a legitimate starter, and perhaps the best kicker in the draft. Heck, even the seventh round pick of this mock draft serves a pretty decent purpose to the team.

If the Chargers are able to put together a draft like this for the 2017 NFL Draft Chargers fans should be happy. This draft is filled with potential, which could be something very special for the Bolts.
