Chargers Draft Rumors: Second Round Targets After Selecting Mike Williams
By Jason Reed
Chidobe Awuzie – Cornerback, Colorado
If there are no viable offensive lineman left in the draft this seemingly becomes a coin toss for the Chargers. The coin toss would be between whether the team should select a safety, or in this case, a cornerback. Los Angeles has a need for both, which they are alarmingly thin in, however, can only select one.
If they went with the corner route, assuming he is still on the board, Chidobe Awuzie would be the Chargers best option. With comparisons to Prince Amukamara, it is evident that Awuzie could be a great number two option behind Jason Verrett.

While he only had one interception in his senior year at Colorado, Awuzie still managed to lock receivers down and was an above average slot rusher. Recording four sacks in both his junior and senior year, Awuzie used his athletic prowess alongside his football IQ to disrupt passes as the foundation.
Awuzie has footwork and IQ that may be ahead of his draft ranking. With so many great corners in this years draft, Awuzie saw his stock fall. However, with the IQ and the footwork that is so necessary, this could be a great choice for the Chargers.
As they iron out his small weaknesses, he will only progress into a fantastic cornerback option.
Overall, the Chargers have some choices to make in the coming rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. If these Chargers draft rumors come to fruition, we may also see a quarterback taken in round three – stay tuned.
