Jason Vargas

Jason Vargas, a Southern California native coming out of Apple Valley, has had an absolutely phenomenal 2017 campaign. The obvious front runner for comeback player of the year, Vargas has posted a 5-1 record this season with only a 1.01 ERA. While practical wisdom tells us that the Royals would be absurd to trade this production, if the team is not in a place to make the postseason they may cash out on this newfound success.

More from LA Sports

While the Dodgers certainly have a surplus of starting pitching, adding Vargas would be huge as the season gets closer in the postseason. In the postseason teams rarely run a full five man rotation, so we could see the Dodgers deal two or even three arms to bring in Vargas to start games in October.

Heck, we could see the Dodgers send off Alex Wood, Hyun Jin-Ryu, and pitching prospect Trevor Oaks away for Jason Vargas. This would give the Royals more depth moving forward, and would give the Dodgers another great arm to throw during October.

While the Royals may not be shopping Vargas, the Dodgers front office definitely should inquire about the left-hander.

Overall, knowing the nature of the Dodgers front office, we will likely see a deal done as the season goes along. Unless the 2017 season is going exactly to plan for Dave Roberts and company, we will certainly see the team attempt to move pieces to increase their playoff chances.

Overall, these Dodgers rumors show a familiar trend for Los Angeles. The team certainly has it’s holes, and it’s needs – and if they ever want to make that same step as the Cubs, Giants, and Royals they are going to need to fill those gaps.
