The latest Lakers news focuses on the potential trading of Jordan Clarkson.

One of the biggest news stories surrounding the Lakers right now is what they’ll do with their young core. Every week, it seems like the team might make a move or hold off.

Above all else, D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle have had their names in the mix. Now it appears that point guard Jordan Clarkson is also being shopped for a potential trade.

While it’s understandable that the front office is wanting to make a splash right away, dealing Clarkson wouldn’t be the best move. Instead, it would be in their best interest to wait until the season actually starts.

Should he end up not performing or see his numbers drop dramatically, then obviously a trade would come back into play. But before the team even selects their next young star in the draft, Los Angeles shouldn’t jump to any conclusions.

How the team played this past season should serve as their short leash, if you will. Any young core in any sport has to go through a learning curve, and that’s what last season was.

Without Kobe Bryant for the first time, fans and the front office got to see what they really have with their core. D’Angelo Russell found that his groove might be best as a shooting guard, while Ivica Zubac and Brandon Ingram have the sky as their ceiling.

In all fairness, Jordan Clarkson shouldn’t be untouchable. For the Lakers to contend again, a trade involving him might be necessary.

He has, however, already proven that the Lakers got a steal when they drafted him in the second round. After a few years in the league, Clarkson thrived off the bench more than anything.

But regardless of the offers, they should hold off on sending him away.
