So many Lakers rumors have been swirling for quite some time now. One that nobody has really explored is the possibility of Isaiah Thomas landing with the Lakers.

Isaiah Thomas is one of the best feel good story’s in all of the NBA. Drafted with the 60th pick by the Kings in 2011, not many expected Thomas to do much in his NBA career. Then, as we all know, Thomas broke out and became the face of this new wave of talent in Boston. Despite this, Thomas has seen himself amidst trade talks and now could be included in the latest Lakers rumors.

The Boston Celtics had a really good season, coming into the playoffs as the first seed and making it to the Eastern Conference Finals. However, coming into that series, we all knew that the Cleveland Cavaliers were too dominant and that they would walk through the Celtics.

That is exactly what Cleveland did. Boston dropped game one, at home, by an uneasy 13 points. The next game was even worse as the Celtics lost by a historic 44 points, making history with the largest playoffs halftime deficit of all-time.

In that very same game, Thomas went down with a hip injury, ruling him inactive for the remainder of the postseason. This was salt in the wound for Celtics fans, as their season was practically over.

However, in the very next game, the Celtics managed to walk away with a win courtesy of an Avery Bradley buzzer beater. Nobody expected that the Celtics would then win the series, and they didn’t, losing the next two games by a combined 46 points.

Yet, because of this one with without Thomas, the trade talks began to spark. People began to question whether or not the Celtics needed Thomas, and with only one year left on contract, this made sense.

One option that has not been explored all that often is a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Boston Celtics own the first overall selection, so they have the luxury to deal Thomas.

Perhaps the Lakers want to turn to the young, established Thomas instead of a rookie like Lonzo Ball. Either option would come out great for the Lakers, so they cannot go wrong

Imagine this: The Los Angeles Lakers swap their second overall selection for Thomas and the Nets 2018 first.

This gives the Celtics the first two picks in the draft, in which they can select a point guard and small forward Josh Jackson, giving the Lakers a star now and a likely top five selection next year.

Even better, the teams could attempt to perform a three-team trade. The Lakers could send D’Angelo Russell to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Thomas, then bringing in the 76ers to send the Celtics Jahlil Okafor and swap first round picks. Add in a small contract like Gerald Green to the 76ers and this deal works perfectly.

Now, the Lakers bring in Thomas and maintain their second overall selection. The 76ers jump to first overall if they wanted to snag Ball from the Lakers, and the Celtics get a promising young guard, center, and a third overall pick.

This deal is a tad lopsided for the Celtics, but it is interesting to see what the Lakers would have to give for Thomas. His name may not be a common one in the Lakers rumors, but the idea of bringing Thomas to LA should be explored.
