Chargers News: Maclin is the veteran receiver LA needs for playoff run
There has been plenty of Chargers news throughout the off-season, yet nothing dramatic has happened yet.
More Chargers news should be coming soon to town. Well it may be like, “What If?” If this event were to happen it would help the Chargers out tremendously. LA already has one of the best receiving cores.
Additionally, they have a good defense when healthy and drafted quality rookie secondary players. This will help LA make the playoffs along with staying healthy. There is also one more person who can assist LA in making the post-season and a possible Super Bowl run.
This person is recently released receiver Jeremy Maclin formerly of the Chiefs.
Jeremy Maclin is a veteran struggled last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, there were flashbacks of his young self in certain games. By not doing great, that proves football is a team sport and it takes everyone to do their job in order to win.
Usually, when a savvy veteran like Maclin has an underachieved performance in a season they bounce back the next season. Expect Maclin to bounce back no matter where he lands. Also, it is hard for him to catch the ball when Smith wasn’t throwing his way much.
Signing with the Chargers gives him an equal opportunity to catch the ball as the defense will need to choose who they want to guard. Also, he is so versatile and stretches the field. He can even play a great part in the run game by excellent outside and downfield blocking.
Maclin heading to the Los Angels Chargers would change everything as he can help LA make the playoffs. In LA, Phillip Rivers would definitely throw to him. Even if Allen somehow can’t stay healthy again then Maclin would be they life saver and life line.
Once again Maclin is capable of assisting the Chargers in having a possibility of making it to the Super Bowl. Here are some stats from the wideout in case you forgot how good he is. These stat lines are from his last year with the Eagles and first with the Chiefs.
In 2014 he was targeted 143 times, made 85 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns. Next year in 2015 he was targeted 87 times, made 124 receptions for 1,088 yards, and 8 touchdowns.
All of this in perspective Maclin was targeted half this amount on, made half the amount of receptions for half the amount of yards while scoring a whopping 2 touchdowns.

If the Chargers were to sign this beauty of a player they would end up if not the best one of the best receiving core. His veteran experience will help the team learn how to conduct themselves in the post-season and can help hem make it there. Not only that but he would be going to a rival team in the AFC West division.
Could he go from red and yellow to blue and yellow? Since they have a coach who is defense first don’t mess with them.
The only thing hindering LA from making the playoffs has been the same the last few years. It has been the ability to stay healthy. If they can stay healthy they can close out games, which has been an issue as well. These two go hand in hand.
The last few years the Chargers have been in games that were close and they couldn’t hold on to the lead. They were unable to finish. Now with a different mindset from a different head coach game plans may stay the same or change.
By LA acquiring Maclin it would have to be on a minimum deal because of all the quality tier players they already have. Additionally, he would make this offense the most potent offense in the NFL.
They have a great opportunity ahead of them to make the playoffs this season and even a run to the Super Bowl.
