Chris Paul leaving to the San Antonio Spurs has been the hot topic of Clippers rumors, so who could replace him?

This leaves Clippers rumors of who will fill the shoes of Chris Paul if he does leave for the Spurs. The good news for the Clippers is that there is plenty of point guards in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The bad news for Lob City is they don’t have a pick in the draft.

However, that doesn’t mean the Clippers cant trade with a team to receive a draft pick or even sign a player in free agency who doesn’t get drafted that they are impressed by.

One player who seems to be a good fit for LA just worked out with the team. Also, he played his college ball at the University of Michigan.

Derrick Walton Jr. may be the next guy to replace Paul, shall he leave in free agency. This is only saying the Clippers don’t recruit all-star free agents, if their whole squad leaves in free agency.

If the Clippers were to play their cards right they could build a super team. Realistically for now they will have to be in rebuilding mode.

Derrick Walton Jr. is a leader who accomplishes tasks making him the Clippers best choice. LA needs someone with that attitude to be the leader of the team.

During the NCAA March Madness Tournament, Derrick Walton Jr. led his Wolverines on a magical run to the Sweet Sixteen, before losing to Oregon by one point.

The Wolverines should have made the Elite Eight, where they would have taken on the Kansas Jayhawks.

Now that would of been a fun match up to watch.

Walton on the season averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. He is capable of double or triple-double. Additionally, he is an excellent play maker with his passing skills. He is explosive off the dribble, allowing him to attack the rim. His ability to create space and make jumpers form mid or long range is outstanding.

Even his defense is fantastic as he goes after the hustle plays. His tenacity is what drives him and his teammates who are around him. He even makes those around him better.

If Chris Paul and the starters do leave ,then the Clippers should sign Walton in free agency if they can’t draft him.

Also, they have to start somewhere so why not sign a point guard you can build your future team around.

Lastly, Walton Jr. is the most sensible player for the Clippers to acquire to build their future on if everyone departs.
