Closing Thoughts

There’s no lie, this will be tempting. Magic Johnson will have to deal with this opportunity at the same time Paul George will be on the market.

The latest team president hasn’t hidden the fact that he has his eyes on George, either. He truly believes the team needs one superstar to be on the same level as Cleveland or Golden State.

So, even if the Lakers were to sign James, what happens if he’s at a point in his career where he’s just not the same?

To try and argue that that won’t happen is ridiculous. Kobe Bryant, as great as he was as a player, wasn’t immortal. Time had its own effect on him, and it wore down the Lakers until a miraculous finale against Utah.

Should a move for James backfire, Johnson will have hell to pay for it. Mainly because the Lakers could’ve improved through other means, but instead chose to chase a guy that’s already accomplished what he wanted to do in the league.

As the situation develops, it’ll also be interesting to see what role the Clippers play in this moving forward. If they are able to retain Chris Paul and successfully acquire Carmelo Anthony, LeBron will definitely be drawn to them.
