The latest NBA Free Agency news looks at what will make or break the Clippers’ potential run at LeBron James.

If the latest news about the best player in basketball ends up being true, he’ll have to have good reason to join the Clippers. In the middle of a potentially huge breakup, the other team from Los Angeles might not be ready for the king.

Before they can worry about him, though, they have their own free agents. Blake Griffin isn’t a must if they want to chase James, but Chris Paul is.

Paul and James have a friendship outside of basketball. In the past, James has made it clear that he wants to play with Paul and Carmelo Anthony before his career ends.

The Clippers aren’t having championship success with the core they’ve had for several years. This could easily be a turn off to LeBron, if he is in fact considering coming to LA.

Right now it’s just rumors, though. Should the Clippers re-sign their superstar point guard, though, that’s huge leverage that they didn’t realize they had before.

Lob City is also in the mix for Paul George.

Ultimately, the free agent chases from this and next summer will decide who reigns supreme in Los Angeles for the meanwhile. Considering that the purple and gold are on the way up, the Clippers can’t really afford much room to fall.

Chris Paul is reportedly linked to the Spurs, but if the front office can convince him that they’ll pull for LeBron, that could change things.
