The Lakers have yet to make this crucial move in NBA Free Agency.

After cutting Tarik Black and drafting strong, the Lakers are still waiting to be seen as major players this summer. Instead of successfully trading for Paul George, they’re left looking forward to the Summer League.

Both Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball will have high expectations. Ivica Zubac has progress to be made as well, but they can’t afford to forget about Tyler Ennis.

After acquiring Ennis as part of the deal that sent Lou Williams to Houston, there was promise for the purple and gold from the former Syracuse guard. Still young, Ennis can be a crucial part of the team’s success in the immediate future.

This is especially true after the decision to send D’Angelo Russell to the Nets. Jordan Clarkson will likely have to play a mix of point and shooting guard, so Ennis would provide relief at the top.

Lonzo Ball might be good and have his game translate well, but he won’t be on the floor for 40+ minutes per game. Also, considering they drafted a shooting guard and center after grabbing Lonzo Ball, they really could use more depth.

It’s not a bad thing to reward a guy that was there for the team. Additionally, it would seem that Ennis can really help with the team’s chemistry as well.

It may not be a rebuilding type of year for the Lakers or their fan base. That’s totally fine to say and believe after being stuck in the rut of the lottery.

But keeping the team run like a well-oiled machine needs to be the front office’s top priority. Ennis will help give Ball the rest he needs and also allow Clarkson the freedom to move around more.

A deal should absolutely be done sooner than later in this case.

Statistically speaking, Ennis only averaged 4.3 points and 1.6 assists per game. Not to mention that his rebounding could use some work.

Less than one board per game isn’t great, but that’s why they’ve got big men.

Giving the 22-year old former first round pick another shot has more upside than anything else. And if this front office is serious about a turnaround, they know what they need to do.
