Clippers Rumors: New York Knicks could be key for Kyrie Irving trade
By Jason Reed
Kyrie Irving has been caught up in Clippers Rumors since his desire to be traded away from the Cavs became public. To accomplish the deal, LA may need to bring in New York.
After trading Chris Paul back in June the Los Angeles Clippers are left without a star running the offense. Although they did bring in Patrick Beverely in the trade to play alongside Austin Rivers and international signing Milos Teodosic, Lob City effectively ended with the trade. However, if the latest Clippers Rumors entail anything, the team may be going out and getting another star point guard.
Despite making it to three consecutive NBA Finals, Kyrie Irving made his desire to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers clear. Irving reportedly is tired of playing in LeBron James’ shadow, looking to find a new home where he can be “the guy”.
Many different destinations have arose from these speculations. The Suns, Timberwolves, Heat and Spurs have all been potential new homes floated around for Irving. For the most part, outside of the Spurs, Irving would become the biggest star in the city. Sure, Minnesota has Jimmy Butler and Miami has Hassan Whiteside, but their stars don’t measure to the star power of Irving.
One destination that has been talked about as well is Los Angeles, to fill the void that Paul left behind. Irving would come in and instantly make the Clippers title contenders again, forming a new lob city with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
Reports have emerged that if the Clippers were to get Irving they would need to include a third team in the trade.

Luckily for the Clippers, the perfect third partner lies across the country, in the only market bigger than LA. Despite Irving’s hesitation to go to New York, the Clippers could utilize them to grant Irving his wish.
The trade we formulated would send the Cavaliers Carmelo Anthony, Wesley Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis. New York would acquire Kevin Love and Austin Rivers, with the Clippers bringing in Kyrie Irving.
This trade would essentially destroy the big three in Cleveland, forming a new one with James, Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. With all signs pointing to LeBron’s departure next offseason, this move would be the perfect move to prepare for the future.
New York gets to get rid of Anthony’s awful contract, while still maintaining a star in Kevin Love. Austin Rivers is a nice addition, and the Clippers get their man.

Irving has been too big of a presense in the Clippers Rumors to not eventually head to LA. Not only would Irving get to run his own offense in LA, he would still have great title chances.
