Outfield

The outfield is where it gets interesting for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the outfield, Los Angeles has three players, Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez and Rob Segedin, who can all play the infield and may call the infield their natural home. However, due to the vast talent in the infield, the trio is best suited to take reps in the outfield.

The two easy shoo-ins for starters is Taylor in center field and Yasiel Puig in right field. Taylor has been struggling of late, hitting .207 in the month of September. However, Taylor has emerged as a pretty good fielding center fielder, and with his speed, the Dodgers need his right-handed bat at the top of the lineup.

As for Puig, although he is dealing with some clubhouse issues right now, this should not stop him from being the everyday right fielder. Puig has arguably swung the bat the best he has since his emergence in 2013. Although the batting average is low at .259, Puig is working himself into good counts – evident by his 61 walks and career-best 26 home runs.

Left field is where things are the most interesting. The Dodgers acquired Curtis Granderson in August and seem to be set on him starting in left field. However, he is batting .139 as a Dodger with six of his 14 hits being home runs. Granderson should remain a pinch-hit option.

As of now, Andre Ethier seems to be the most qualified to get the start in left field. Since returning from injury, Ethier is batting .296 with two home runs in 27 at-bats. Against southpaws, the right-handed options of Hernandez or Segedin may be better suited, but heading into the series, Ethier seems to be the most qualified.
