This move with the Milwaukee Bucks would solely be made for salary cap reasons, but still opens the door for Kuzma to start at power forward. The Lakers worst contract under their belt is easily Luol Deng’s as the team owes him $54 million over the next three seasons to average just 7.6 points per game.

Los Angeles’ game plan is clear: free up as much cap space as possible to bring in one, potentially two, superstars to the city of Los Angeles. While the team’s salary openings after this season will open the door for at least one, Los Angeles is going to have to get rid of a piece like Deng in order to afford two.

Obviously, no team is going to take just Deng. Some young talent is going to have to be thrown into the mix to even out the deal. For the Lakers, the Bucks may just be the best team to eat his massive contract.

The Bucks are a young, up incoming team that could use all the young talent that they can get. Adding Julius Randle would only strengthen their bench, while trading Monroe would open the door for Thon Maker. Add in a top-five pick, which covers the Lakers if they do not pan out, and the Bucks are getting a good return for an expiring contract.

The Lakers would have a log jam at center this season, but that could ultimately help the team in making the postseason. If Kuzma performs as expected he will be as good, if not better, than Randle is. Add in another great center behind Lopez and the Lakers become a better all-around team.

Whatever path the Lakers do pursue one motive should be clear: get Kyle Kuzma in the starting five. The rookie forward has just been playing far too good to ignore any of these Lakers rumors.
