Los Angeles Angels: Three free agent targets to pursue this offseason
By Jason Reed
3. RHP Brandon Morrow
Brandon Morrow reinvented himself with the freeway-rivaled Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017. The fifth overall selection of the 2006 MLB Draft never really thrived as a starter. However, since transitioning to the bullpen with the San Diego Padres in 2016, Morrow has proven that he can be lights out over a few innings of work.
Morrow was the most consistent arm in the Dodgers’ bullpen not named Kenley Jansen last season. The hard-throwing right-hander made 45 appearances, threw 43.2 innings all to the tune of a 2.06 ERA. In the postseason, Morrow was dominant for the Dodgers when he did not throw on three consecutive days. Morrow became just the second player to ever pitch in all seven World Series games.

Now, Morrow is a free agent and can cash out for a relatively decent contract. On the Dodgers, Morrow’s role would primarily be the setup man, However, he does have what it takes to close at the MLB level and may look elsewhere for that role.
The Los Angeles Angels are the perfect team to take over that role. Huston Street is out as the closer and the Angels do not have any viable options at the back end of the ‘pen.
Morrow would not have to move far and could take a considerable role on the Angels. The Angels need Morrow as much as Morrow needs them. With the right pieces, Morrow could help the Angels blossom back into a playoff team.

The Los Angeles Angels already have the best player in baseball manning center field; they are only a few key pieces away. With these three free agents, the Angels have their best chance of returning to the playoffs.
