Chargers: Five free agents of interest to pursue this offseason
Ricardo Allen:
More from Los Angeles Chargers
- LA Chargers: Week 8 against Denver Broncos is a must-win
- LA Chargers: Justin Herbert wins AFC Rookie of the Month
- LA Chargers must take advantage of weaker upcoming schedule
- LA Chargers: Justin Herbert looks like a franchise quarterback
- LA Chargers: Justin Herbert looks fantastic in win over Jaguars
This player is a strange one. As of now, they do not need Ricardo Allen, nor should they sign him. But it is currently unknown if the team will be able to bring back safety, Tre Boston. If they are unable to retain Boston, that is the circumstance in which they should do whatever they can to land Ricardo Allen.
Allen is coming from the Atlanta Falcons, a team that runs a very similar defensive system as that of Gus Bradley in Los Angeles. Allen and Boston essentially played the exact same role for their respective teams last season, so the transition would be seamless.
Allen would be an upgrade over Boston when it comes to playing the run, something that could definitely improve the team’s defense. Boston had a problem with missing tackles that he has no business missing, this would not be a problem with Allen.
Boston was probably slightly better than Allen is coverage last season, but it is not a huge difference– certainly not enough to cause any worry.

The best case scenario would be to retain Boston and maintain continuity in a very good secondary, but if he must be replaced, no one makes more sense than Ricardo A
