Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks are parting ways, sparking massive NFL Rumors. For Sherman, the best fit is down the coastline with the Chargers.

Richard Sherman became a household name with one play. On January 19, 2014, Sherman deflected a Colin Kaepernick pass to Michael Crabtree in the end zone into the hands of Malcolm Smith with 22 seconds remaining to win the NFC Championship game. Sherman’s eccentric post-game interview made him famous. Now, Sherman is at the center of the latest NFL rumors.

Sherman has been a consistent presence on the Seattle Seahawks “Legion of Boom”. However, the Seattle Seahawks are turning a new page in their short-lived dynasty.

After the Seahawks already traded Michael Bennett, Seattle decided to release Richard Sherman. Seattle is undergoing a roster overhaul, in this move the team is freeing up $11 million in cap space. Sherman could re-sign with Seattle for a cheaper amount, but all signs point to Sherman finding a new home.

Thus, the NFL rumors of Sherman’s new team have begun. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network spoke to Sherman about his potential new team.  Sherman wants a “great fit,” and a “great QB.”

Look no further than the Los Angeles Chargers. Former NFL quarterback and current Bleacher Report analysis Chris Simms thinks the Chargers are the best fit. Simms is right.

The Chargers are the perfect fit. While I think the hometown narrative sometimes gets overplayed in sports, Sherman grew up in Compton; his high school is six miles away from the StubHub Center. While the Chargers may be new to the LA scene, they provide Sherman a path to go home. With the Rams latest additions, the same cannot be said there.

Plus, the defense itself is just itching for Richard Sherman. There are huge questions around Jason Verrett and his health, Sherman solves those problems. If Verrett stays healthy, the Chargers would have the best secondary in football. Two elite corners (Casey Hayward, Sherman) one potential Pro Bowler (Verrett) and one above average corner (Desmond King) would all man the backfield.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

Add that to the Chargers’ scary pass-rush and it becomes near impossible to pass against this team. Add a run-stopping defensive tackle in the first-round of the 2018 NFL Draft, add a linebacker in the second and suddenly the Chargers would have the best defense in football.

And sorry to all the Philip Rivers haters, but Rivers is a GREAT quarterback. Rivers continues to lead the Chargers to relevancy and quite frankly has had the franchise on his back since LaDainian Tomlinson‘s downfall. Rivers is easily a top-10 quarterback in the NFL. Call me crazy if you want.

The writing is on the wall, this partnership is literally too perfect to pass up. Offensively, the Chargers are in tune. A deep receiving core of Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, Travis Benjamin and Mike Williams gives Rivers a lot of tools to succeed. Hunter Henry is great. Melvin Gordon is a threat in the run and pass game. The young offensive line is the best it has been in years.

Los Angeles is a few pieces away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. This team is set up perfectly for Richard Sherman. Just c’mon down to LA!

Until Richard Sherman makes an announcement the NFL rumors around him will continue to swirl. At the end of the day though, my money is on Sherman heading to the Los Angeles Chargers.
